"Music is not just what you can hear. Music is what it means to people. And music is, what it does to people." Sir Simon Rattle
According to this motto, Concerto Konstanz has been performing since 1971. Dedicated amateur musicians from Constance and the surrounding area develop several concert programs a year under the direction of Konstanz conductor Wolfgang Mettler, achieving a remarkable level of performance. As an exclusively string orchestra, Concerto Konstanz draws on a special repertoire that is rarely heard in the concert halls of the Lake Constance region. The range spans works from the early Baroque to contemporary music.
In addition to several concerts a year in Constance and the surrounding area - also regularly on social occasions - the orchestra goes on tours, to Canada and China for example and most recently to Hungary.
The objective of the orchestra is to create a high-quality bridge between an amateur orchestra and the professional level. This can only be by constant effort, because the group is constantly changing: Meanwhile, about 270 strings in the Concerto Konstanz are playing along!
